COVID Management
While COVID-19 continues to be a potentially problematic respiratory infection, along with influenza, RSV, and others, most workplace regulations and public health requirements were lifted as of February 2025.
These changes mean that it is no longer mandatory for employees to report COVID infections to the COVID Monitoring Office, previously managed by Environmental Health and Safety. Additionally, there are no formal restrictions on when employees or students who have tested positive for COVID or are experiencing COVID-like symptoms can return to campus, including work, academic, or social activities.
Similarly, there are no mandates related to wearing a face covering following a positive COVID test. SSU, however, encourages and supports any person who wears a face covering to protect themselves or others from illness in doing so. The use of face coverings, however, cannot be mandated (except in healthcare settings) nor can it be prohibited (except as related to the Interim Time, Place, and Manner Policy).
Although the requirements surrounding COVID case reporting are no longer in place, we strongly encourage students, employees, and guests to continue to use thoughtful judgment in protecting others from illness by staying home or wearing a proper face covering when ill, especially when experiencing symptoms of any potentially contagious illness.
